Miami-Dade Schools Fraternal Order of Police started negotiating the 2017-2018 successor contract on October 19, 2017. Our bargaining team was poised, informed, and ready to go and so was the MDCPS. We exchanged niceties, such as, presenting the Labor Management Division of the MDCPS with a portrait showing them and us together in support for breast cancer research.
However, the tension in the room was palpable because of the current temperature on the state level in regards to public schools. It is no secret the House Bill 7069 drastically reduced the amount of money coming to the District, but we feel that our members should and will be compensated in a manner reflective of what we do; secure our most precious resource…children.
It is paramount for this District and its customers to realize the job the men and women of the Miami Dade Schools Police Department do on a daily basis; moreover, for the parents of every child in this district to realize how serious we take the fact that they have entrusted the safety of their children to us, day in and day out. As such, it is of the utmost importance that we hold steadfast to how we believe we should be compensated.
We are very aware that we will have a long fight in front of us, but we are ready, willing, and able to grip firmly to our proposals knowing they are and will be fair and equitable to all members of this bargaining unit.
We will keep you posted as this situation progresses. Till then, take care, be safe, and God Bless you!
